3. Biodata:

sarjang abdulBrig. Gen. Abdur Rehman Sarjang (20111220) son of  Haji Ajmir Khan (Grandfather's Name: Janan) was born 1966 in Mian Khel district.

BG Sarjang had been proposed by the Ministry of Interior to fill the position of Chief of Police of Gardez, Paktia Province. This was an appointment that needed to be made as quickly as possible due to the strategic importance of Gardez and the weakness of the incumbent police chief, Rahofi.(20070113).

Sarjang scored well in several formal MOI internal review boards, conducted with international community mentor assistance, that assessed both anti-corruption and professionalism.

Ministry of Interior (MoI) announced that Helmand's former police chief Abdul Rahman Sarjang will be introduced to the attorney general for legal investigations within two days. He is being investigated on charges of exploiting his official powers, establishing ghost police and underestimating his responsibilities in the war with insurgents.

Meanwhile, Kintoz, the new police chief of Helmand said that statistics show almost 50 percent of police personnel reported in the structure of the police in Helmand are ghost officers, calling it an act of treason.

There are around 10,000 police personnel in the structure of police force in Helmand plus 16,000 army soldiers along with public protection forces and border security forces. 40 to 50 percent of the force did not exist physically when we asked for help during operations. Salaries of ghost soldiers had been received during the past eight months and the money has gone to personal accounts.
Their equipment and weaponries were distributed to mafia and local lawbreakers.

There are 40,000 people on the list, but the reports which have been received show that seven to eight thousand insurgents exist in Helmand. With forty thousand people who are backed by tanks, artilleries and aircrafts, the enemy could have been defeated.(20160609) A number of MPs criticized government for not assessing the cases of former Wardak Police Chief Khalilullah Andarabi and former Helmand Police Chief Abdul Rahman Sarjang. Andarabi is accused of cooperating with Taliban, while Sarjang is accused of corruption and presence of 'ghost soldiers' in Helmand province. The two police chiefs were introduced to the court July 2016 but the Attorney General's Office has not sent their cases to the court so far.(20160807)

The former provincial police chief in Helmand, Abdul Rahman Sarjang, is said to be under investigation for allegedly selling the posts of district chiefs of police in the province.(20170606)

Abdul Rahman Sarjang, who was appointed by President Ashraf Ghani, was convicted on charges of misusing his authority, according to a court statement. He was jailed for three years for corruption. Among Sarjang’s crimes were the sale of police district chief posts in the province as well as the appointment of “ghost” officers who existed only on paper so he could collect their pay.(20170813)
