Mrs. Anarkali Honaryar Anar Kali Hunaryar, daughter of Kishen Dengh, was born 1974 in Kala-e Hindwan District, Khost Province. She is a 15th Classe Graduate - Stomatology (1995). Hunaryar is a Sikh, one of about 3,000 Sikhs and Hindus who remained in Afghanistan. But the outbreak of hostilities in Afghanistan meant that most - including· Honaryar's relatives - moved to safer places in India, Europe and Canada. Once the Taliban were overthrown in 2001, Honaryar went to Kabul University to study medicine. She was part of the loya jirga (grand council) that selected the interim government to replace the Taliban.
She was a dentist and a Radio Presenter before joining the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission AIHRC in 2006. In May 2009 she was chosen by Radio Free Europe's Afghan chapter as their "Person of the Year". The award has made her a household name in Kabul. She was parliament candidate (2010 elections) from Kabul who represents the country's Sikh and Hindu minority. (20100915).
Honaryar is a member of the Legislative Affairs, Justice and Judiciary (Legal Monitoring, Human Rights and Corruption Campaign) Committee.
President Ghani presented a sword to Anarkalai Honaryar, the female Sikh representative in the Afghan Senate, in show of his attention to religious minorities.(20170828)
The Avicenna International Peace Award has been awarded to Dr. Anarkali Honaryar, a senator and the only active Sikh citizen of Afghanistan.(20210319)
