3. Biodata:
Naheed Farid, daughter of Muhammad Ibrahim, was born in Herat City in 1984. Her family immigrated to Iran after her birth and she received her elementary education in Iran. After returning to Afghanistan, she couldn’t continue her higher school education in Herat province due to emergence of Taliban regime. After the fall of Taliban, she completed school and also had a part time work in a private organization. She graduated from the Mahboobai Herawi High School and in 2007 she earned a bachelor’s degree in law and politics from Herat University. Two years (2010) later she was awarded her master’s degree in international relations from the George Washington University in the United States.
Naheed is currently (2012) a member of the international relations committee in Parliament. She previously served as a temporary secretary of the Wolesi Jirga, or lower house.
Her background includes work for different NGOs and the World Food Program (WFP). She still runs the family Farid Foundation, which, according to her, has provided stationery and clothes to 70,000 school children in Herat.
Farid is a member of the International Youth Association.
Nahid Farid is said to be a non Hazara Shia. She is a Tajik (Farsiwan), an ''ethnic Herati''. Nahid Farid is said to be the youngest member of Wolesi Jirga 2010 (20110814). She said that she won’t join any party or Parliamentary group because she does not want to want to work for their interests, but for the national interest.
The MP from Herat has been fully supported in her political career by her husband and his family. They paid the entire 3 million afghani cost of her campaign, Naheed said. As part of her campaign her husband Farid, along with six doctors from the family, offered free medical checks and treatments. Naheed said that people from all parts of society voted for her because they liked her opinions and her motto: “Careful selection, responsible parliament and wise government.”
The young MP, a mother of a daughter, said that she did not promise things which an MP cannot do: "I was not telling people that I would construct roads, bridges and culverts or any other works. That responsibility belongs to the [executive branch]." Some people urge the MPs to construct roads, which she said is not in their competency. She added: “Some of the MPs behave like petitioners, writing letters for their constituents and walking from ministry to ministry to meet their requirements.”
Nahid Ahmadi Farid, said that she is ready to give the privilege of her seat at the Lower House of Parliament to Simin Barakzai, who has been on hunger strike for almost nine days, if her decision doesn't’t oppose the laws, and if she has the consensus of MPs, especially Simin Barakzai’s in this regard. (20111011)
Farid received 1,959 votes in Wolesi Jirga election 2018 and got a seat in WJ 2018.
Naheed Farid, who sat in Parliament in Afghanistan for 11 years, and three Canadian senators said Thursday June 2, 2022 in Ottawa the applications for the remaining 26,000 are already in processing and yet there are still thousands of desperate people waiting for a chance to flee from Afghanistan to safety.
She is married and has one daughter.
Her native language is Dari. She speaks also Pashtu, English and some German. |
