Dangam District is mountainous and poor. The population is 15,000 (2006), and is 98% Pashtun and 2% Tajik.

Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan TTP has safe houses in Dangam District. Pakistan Military has resorted to artillery shelling at the TTP dens in Dangam, Marawara and Shegal Districts in eastern Kunar province of Afghanistan.(20180313)
