The ethnic Uzbek Mohammad Yaqoub was born 1959. Secondary school in Qalah-e-Naw. Teacher training schools in Herat and Kabul. Leading vote getter in 2005 parliamentary elections in Badghis. Yaqoub describes himself as an politically independent. He is married and has 8 children.

Two oldest sons run an English language and computer center in Herat.
