2. Previous Function: Saifuddin Saihoon, an Afghan economist in Kabul, believes the $8bn can instead be allocated for the development of national factories and plants. A surge in import is belived to have paralysed national factories. Collapse of textile industry in the country alone has made 40,000 people jobless. "Unfortunatley our textile industry that had a lot of marketing in and out of the country has totally collapsed and around 40,000 workers have lost their jobs," said Mr Saihoon. Afghanistan's imports are believed to be six times more than its exports. Economists claim international community has only encouraged Afghanistan to export raw material and the production sector has not been developed. Until Afghanistan is not able to produce part of its needs and isn't free from economic dependence, it would be impossible to address poverty and unemployment in the country.(20110212) |
