The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum said in a statement on Tuesday August 04,2026  that it has signed a five-year contract worth 106 million Afghanis for the extraction and processing of a barite mine in the Farinjal area of Surkh Parsa district in Parwan province.

The contract has been signed between the Minister of Mines and Petroleum, Mullah Hedayatullah Badri and Nabi Afghan Mining and Processing Company, the statement said.

According to the statement, the barite mine covers an area of 11.27 hectares and will be developed under the five-year agreement.

Under the terms of the contract, the company will pay a royalty of 850 afghanis and create employment opportunities for 300 people, the statement said.

The company has also established a domestic processing plant for barite, which is expected to support local processing and contribute to the development of the mining and processing sector within the country.
