Background:
Originally established decades ago to promote agricultural and industrial growth, combat monopolies, generate job opportunities, and bolster the national economy, state-owned corporations in Afghanistan had been neglected and significantly impacted by the prolonged four decades of war.

With the resurgence of the Islamic Emirate, there has been a renewed emphasis on these corporations, recognizing their economic importance. Under Decree No. 21 dated 27/6/1445 AH by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Emirate, the General Directorate of State-owned Corporations was set up to enhance and streamline operations. Furthermore, the organizational framework of this directorate was formalized under Decree No. 8 dated 22/2/1446 AH.

Key accomplishments from the past year include the revitalization and reequipping of major state-owned corporations like Afghan Poultry, Baghlan Sugar, Kandahar, Balkh, and Pul-e-Khumri Textile Mills, as well as the Bost Corporation in Helmand. Additionally, preparations for the implementation of the CASA-1000 project in collaboration with the World Bank are underway.

Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) produced 1,206,671 megawatts of electricity domestically and imported 5,672,796 megawatts from neighboring nations in the past year. Notable progress has been made in the construction of critical energy infrastructure projects, including transmission lines and substations in various regions.

Advancements in the Qoosh Tepa Canal project and mining operations at the Balkhab coal mine have also been reported. The production of cement, installation of fiber optic infrastructure, establishment of gas distribution centers, water supply projects, agricultural outputs from Nangarhar, and achievements in the printing sector were highlighted as significant milestones.

Moreover, the Directorate has been instrumental in promoting economic growth through the production and export of various goods, organizing exhibitions, and conducting vocational workshops to support local artisans.
