Background:
Officials in the Ministry of Finance allegedly have taken US$ 3 million bribe to reduce the taxes of a private company, Global Link. It is alleged that Global Link's taxes were reduced from US$ 12.5 million to US$ 1.5 million, said General Abubakr Rafiee, the head of the Anti-Corruption Department at the Attorney General's Office. Eight employees at the Finance Ministry and at the company have been detained.(20120807) It is said that Global Link imported 31 armored vehicles to Afghanistan and the company should have paid $12.5 million to the Afghan government, but officials have taken a $3m bribe to reduced the taxes to $1.5m.
