Background:
Bawka District's  population is entirely Pashtun.

Growing and trafficking Poppy is much of the population’s main source of income, particularly in Bakwa, Bala Boluk, Khak-e Safid, Gulistan, Poshtrud and, less significantly, Purchaman districts, according to UNODC. Not coincidentally, those are the districts with the earliest and strongest Taleban presence.
 

Residents of the Bakwa district in Farah province are moving to other places due to the absence of health and education services, said officials on 20140126.
