Badakhshan University students on 20111211 staged a protest in Faizabad, the capital of the northern province, calling for the chancellor's dismissal. The protest came six days after unidentified gunmen beat up a professor of the university in Faizabad. Students accused the chancellor of involvement in the incident. The protesting students said Prof. Zabihullah was thrashed at the behest of Chancellor Abdul Qadir Mashal, who rejected the claim as baseless.
