Shortapa District Police Chief:
Col. Muhammad Yousuf Mohammad Yosof (20121011) police commander of Shortipa district, and one of his bodyguards were killed by a roadsite bomb.  The blast happened around 9:00 AM when his car hit an improvised explosive device in the road of the district. ( 20160427)
 

Background:
Shortipa is considered one of the secure districts in the north of Balkh without an active insurgency. It shares a border with neighboring Uzbekistan divided by the Amu Darya. The people of Shortepa, are mainly ethnic Turkmen.
