The International Organization for Migration (IOM) resumed its activities in Kabul airport after two years.

The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation (MoRR) said the resumption of the organization's operations in the nation is beneficial.

According to the MoRR, the organization is in charge of registering and supporting immigrants who return to the country legally.

"This office at the airport registers immigrants who return to the country, and this office was reactivated with the efforts of the Ministry of Refugees and the International Organization of Migration," said Abdul Mutalib Haqqani, the ministry's spokesperson.

The resumption of activities of the IOM is beneficial in addressing the issues of immigrants, according to some analysts.

"The resumption of UN activities in Afghanistan is a good step for the situation of refugees because this organization has many activities in the fields of business development, regulation of immigration affairs, and dealing with forced migrations,” said Asifa Stanikzai, advocate for immigrants’ affairs.

Meanwhile, some immigrants asked the Islamic Emirate and international organizations to address their challenges.

"The main reason for the migration of Afghans is due to the lack of employment and the current situation,” said Firoz Aiden, a migrant.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has restarted its operations in Kandahar province, according to the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation. The IOM office in Spin Boldak, a border town with Pakistan, had been closed for two months due to some reasons. The ministry said that after several meetings with the local authorities, the IOM was able to resume its work.(20230822)
