Haji Abdul Hai Akhunzada (Helmand) is the son of Mohammad Rasool Akhunzada and was born 1985 in Kajaki District of Helmand Province. Hay graduated from Lashkargah Boys’ High School in 2003. He studied Computer Science for two years and Political Science for nine months in India at the NIIT Management and IT Training Center in Delhi, India, from 2005 to 2008. He is the brother of former governor of Helmand and current senator (2012), Sher Muhammad Akhundzada. Hay owns a trade company dealing in construction materials.

Abdul Hai bagged most votes in Wolesi Jirga Election 2010.

He is married.

He speaks Dari, English, Hindi and Urdu.
