Mohammad Akmal Ameer, a senior commander of the anti-Taliban Afghanistan Freedom Front and former commando, was killed along with seven of his men in a Taliban ambush in Salang district of Parwan province on Monday April 10, 2023.

Ameer and his men clashed with the Taliban forces in the border mountains of Parwan and Panjshir provinces before being ambushed by the group as he attempted to retreat to Shutal district of the adjacent Panjshir province with his forces.

The Taliban’s Ministry of Defense also claimed that the group’s forces killed Ameer and seven of his men in an operation on the hideout of the “rebels” in Salang.

The Taliban usually refers to members of its armed opposition groups as “rebels”.

The Defense Ministry said that during an operation in the Northern Province of Afghanistan, Parwan killed Akmal Ameer with his eight comrades on Tuesday.

The statement added that the forces of the 221st Aftab Unit of the 313th Central Army Corps had launched an operation against the hideout of the Resistance Front in the Salang District of Parwan province, which resulted in the killing of Akmal Ameer, one of the senior commanders and his eight comrades.

The statement added that several weapons and ammunition had been seized during the operation, including one rocket rifle, 2 RPGs, 4-47K, 2 Carmel Rifles and one night Camera frame.

The statement claimed that the Taliban security forces would not allow any individual or group to disrupt the security and peace in the country.
