2. Previous Function: Nasir Ahmad Fayek Naseer Ahmad Faiq Faiq was born in Kabul, Afghanistan and he is married with two children. He studied Law and Political Sciences at Kabul University in 2005 and has a master’s degree in Administrative Sciences (MAS) with a concentration in diplomacy and international relations from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He
has assumed the leadership of the Afghan mission to the UN in the capacity of Charge d’ Affaires, the permanent mission of Afghanistan to the United Nations said in a statement. The appointment of Faiq comes after the former permanent Afghan ambassador to the UN, Ghulam Ishaqzai, resigned from his position.(20211217) Taliban reacted to the decision of the United Nations over allowing Naseer Ahmad Faiq to assume the seat of Afghanistan’s permanent representative at the UNGA and said the UN must not further deteriorate the issue. Taliban’s nominee for UN Suhail Shaheen has told Radio Free of Afghanistan that the UN must act based on the principles of impartiality and allow him to assume the seat. Suhail Shaheen added that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is ruling the entire country so the seat must necessarily be given to the envoy of IEA, not to someone who has no sovereignty nor is part of the ruling government in Afghanistan.
“The UN must resolve the issue based on principle and do not allow the problem to further be worsened.” Added Shaheen.
Afghanistan’s permanent mission base in New York on Friday, December 17 in a press statement said that Naseer Ahmad Faiq will resume the post of Permanent Representative in the UN after Ghulam Muhammad Ishzaqzai resigned from the post.
Naseer Ahmad Faiq has recently accused former Afghan authorities of plotting against him after he made a speech in UNSC demanding the confiscation and freezing of bank accounts of former Afghan officials. Afghanistan’s representation in the UN has been a matter of conflict in recent months as the Taliban has repeatedly asked for their envoy-Suhail Shaheen- to be allowed to occupy the post but the UN has refused to.(20220208)
