Fazel Ahmed Faqiryar was born 1938 in Afghanistan. Faqiryar, the most senior prosecutors has said that President Hamid Karzai fired him 20100826 after he repeatedly refused to block corruption investigations at the highest levels of the government. Fazel Ahmed Faqiryar, the former deputy attorney general, said investigations of more than two dozen senior Afghan officials, including cabinet ministers, ambassadors and provincial governors, were being held up or blocked outright by Karzai, Attorney General Mohammed Ishaq Aloko and others (20100829).

Former Deputy Attorney-General, Fazel Ahmad Faqiryar, was detained on charges of corruption and misusing authority, said an undisclosed source in the Attorney-General’s Office.(20111225)

A three-judge panel found that a former deputy attorney general, Fazel Ahmed Faqiryar, had falsely stated that he had been forced into early retirement and that he had falsely accused Rangin Dadfar Spanta, the national security adviser, of corruption. Mr. Faqiryar was ordered to pay a modest fine, about $300. The small fine was in keeping with Mr. Spanta’s stated intent, which was to clear his name rather than to get revenge, said his lawyer, Ahmad Farid Arabzai. Spanta has been in a two-year dispute with Mr. Faqiryar, who named him in Parliament hearings and interviews with both Afghan and international news organizations, including The New York Times.(20120925)
