anwari_sayed_hussainSayed Hussain Anwari is the son of Saeed Anwar Shah and was born 1959 (other source say 1954) in Parwan Province into a religious family. He was studying to be a teacher but the internal strife forced him to discontinue his education. He has written several articles in the media. He is a Schiite and is with the Northern Alliance.

 

He used to also be the Chief Military Commander of Harrakat-e-Islami e Afghanistan (Islamic Movement of Afghanistan). An ethnic Sayed Hazara from Ghowrband, Parwan Province, he is politically aligned with Harakat-e Ingilab Islami of Ayatullah Muhsini. Having received formal training in Kabul at the Teacher’s Training College, he worked for the Helmand Construction Company until 1978 and served as the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and part of a 10-member shura between 1992 and 1995. He then served as Minister of Agriculture from 2001 through 2005. He is considered a moderate who supports the disarmament program. Public Prosecution Department says a commission is to be set up to investigate corruption cases attributed to Anwari and others. (20100315). Later without mentioning names, the Public Prosecution Department says it has given up on its investigation of dossiers attributed to three former Cabinet members. Analysts say the dossiers belong to Sediqa Balkhi, Obaidula Ramin and Sayed Hussain Anwari.

The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs on 20131019 introduced eight individuals to Wolesi Jirga to replace seven members standing down in the run up to the April 5, 2014 elections and one deceased female lawmaker.They replaced resigning MPs including Syed Ishaq Gillani, Syed Hussain Anwari, Abdul Rab Rassoul Sayyaf, Mohammad Mohaqqiq, Shah Abdul Ahad Afzali, Syed Hussain Alami Balkhi, Ibrahim Qasmi and deceased female lawmaker from western Herat, Shehnaz Himmati, who has  died in a road crash in neighbouring Iran.(20131019)
 

Syed Hussain Anwari was travelling in the Seyah Gard district of Parwan when he came under a bomb attack but was unharmed. The blast took place Ghorban valley at 5pm when Anwari was passing through Somanchi area. Anwari  has recently endorsed Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai in the June 14 runoff presidential election. Anwari blasted the Government leaders for not delivering on their campaign promises amid a surge in security threats and economic downturn.(20160324)


Anwari was the leader of Hezb-e-Harakat, Islamic Movement Party of Afghanistan, and was under treatment in India. Sources have said Anwari was suffering from cancer and died as he was undergoing treatment in India.(20160706)

Sayed Mujtaba Anwari and Sayed Mahdi Anwari, both running for Wolesi Jirga 2018 in Kabul. They are sons of the late Sayed Hussain Anwari, leader of the Shia mujahedin party Harakat-e Islami, former minister of agriculture and of planning and former governor of Kabul and Herat.

He is married to two wifes and has six daughters and five sons.
