Zikria was born in Kabul, Afghanistan in November of 1959. He belongs to a well-known family with a strong background in the Afghan Foreign office. Zikria studied in the French high school in Kabul and continued his higher education in the U.S. He received his Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree. in Nuclear and Mechanical Engineering and his Master of Science (M.S) degree in Nuclear Reliability Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park Campus.He lived in the United States of America during the Soviet occupation and Communist rule of Afghanistan.
On October 21, 2004, Abdul Farid Zikria arrived in Abu Dhabi and presented a copy of his credentialsand on February 07, 2005, Abdul Farid Zikria presented his credentials to H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to the United Arab Emirates. Ambassador Zikria was the first full fledge Afghan Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates.
He has a 16 year old son and an 13 year old daughter.
Ambassador Zikria speaks Dari (Farsi), Pashto as well as English. He also speaks some French, Russian and Turkish.
