The Free and Fair Elections Forum of Afghanistan Organization (FEFA) has sought since 2004 to develop and pursue a long-term strategic plan. While FEFA has succeeded in establishing itself as Afghanistan’s premiere national domestic election monitoring organization, the broader democracy and governance agenda has proved more difficult to pursue. Between the elections of 2005 and 2009, the organization was able to implement several initiatives. However, these activities were pursued in an ad hoc manner and were to an extent a response to donors and the purposes for which donor funding was available. Conscious that the grander goal of democracy building requires a longer-term focus and engagement, FEFA secured the support of its international partners – particularly UNDP and NDI – to facilitate the development of a strategic plan in January 2010. At the end of January 2015, FEFA conducted facilitated sessions for staff, to update FEFA’s strategic plan for the next five years (2015-19). In addition, key external partners were engaged for their views on FEFA’s performance as well as elements that should be included in the new strategic plan. With this new strategic plan, FEFA wishes to deepen the gains achieved under the previous plan particularly as relates to such areas as human resource management, program management and monitoring and evaluation.
 

Board of Directors

The current board is composed of 7 members for a term of 4 years. Board’s term begun on Feb 2012 and are registered at the Ministry of Economy. FEFA’s charter suggests that at least one third of board should be selected from those who served as board members before so continuity and organizational memory could be preserved. As per the FEFa’s charter the board is the highest authority of the organization that is accountable to the Afghan public, the network of FEFA and its large number of volunteers.
 

1- Ahmad Nader Nadery: Nader Nadery is the founder and chairman of FEFA. As per decision of the board of directors Nadery assumed rule of executive chairman of the Free and Fair Election Foundation of Afghanistan on Feb 2012.

He served as Commissioner of the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC).
Nadery is also chairman of board of directors of Open Society Foundation-Afghanistan. Nadery represented Afghan youth Peace and political activists at the main UN peace talks for Afghanistan in the Bonn Conference in 2001. Prior to his appointment at the AIHRC he was serving as the director of Global Rights an organization he founded in 2002. He also served as the Spokesperson for the Emergency Loya Jirga (Grand Assembly that elected head of transitional government) in 2002. He also was elected as a delegate for the ELJ and served as representative of people in 2002 Jirga. He co-founded Afghan Civil Society Forum, and foundation for civil society and culture. He has written extensively on politics, human rights, women rights and democracy in Afghanistan. Mr. Nadery thought constitutional law at the American University of Afghanistan in 2012. He is also serving as member of Global Agenda Council on Fragile State of World Economic Forum. Nadery led four support missions of justice and democracy development in Libya since the revolution there in 2012.
He is also a member of Board of Editors of the International Journal on Transitional Justice and appears regularly on BBC, New York Times, Washington Post and other national and international media.
In 2005 he was recognized as an "Asian Hero" by Time Magazine and named as Young Global Leaders by the World Economic Forum in 2008. He studied law and political sciences in Kabul University and earned his master’s degree in International Relation from George Washington University.

2- Mohammad Farid Hamidi: Mohammad Farid Hamidi is cofounded of the Free and Fair Election Foundation of Afghanistan (FEFA). He is a Commissioner at the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission. He is a well-known lawyer with extensive experience on criminology and investigation. Before joining the Commission, Hamidi served as a commissioner at the Emergency Loya Jirga Commission where he led the work on rules and regulation for the Emergency Loya Jirga elections. He also worked closely with the Judicial Reform Commission in the training of lawyers andjudges on international human rights law and standards. He also led high level presidential panel in investigation of illegal seizer of public property in 2004. Hamid is a leading Civil Society figure and played central role in empowering civil society in the country since 2001.
Hamidi also serves as chairman of the presidential advisory board on
senior governmental appointments.  He worked as a member of presidential study group on radicalization of Afghans. Hamidi earned a BA in Criminal Investigation from the National Police Academy and a BA in Law from the Kabul University. He earned his masters in political science from the Azad University of Kabul. He speaks Dari, Pashtu and have a working knowledge of English.

3- Mrs. Sweeta Nori : Sweeta Noori currently serves as Afghanistan Country Director for Women for Women International. She directs programs that have helped more than 8,500 women by providing direct financial assistance, rights education, vocational skills training, and microcredit loans. In July 2004, Mrs. Noori launched the Afghanistan’s first microcredit lending program targeting women, which has since dispersed over $750,000 to approximately 2,700 women. She helps maintain a 99% repayment rate. Under Ms. Noori’s leadership, Women for Women International teamed up with the Afghanistan Ministry of Women’s Affairs to register 2,000 women to vote in the historic 2004 presidential elections and 1,800 women in the 2005 parliamentary elections. Prior to joining Women for Women International, Mrs. Noori served as an assistant for the Chairman of the Loya Jerga Commission in forming the transitional administration of Afghanistan. She has also worked for the International Human Rights Law Group and the International Rescue Committee. In October 2005, she addressed the United Nations Security Council and the U.S. Congress about the challenges Afghan women continue to face. She earned her BA in social sciences from Kabul University and received numerous training on leadership and non-profit organization’s management in UK and US.

4- Wahiduddin Arghun: Arghun is a very respected public service personality. He is currently leading the regional office of Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission in Badakhashan province. He served as deputy director of Esteqlal High School, Afghanistan’s top school in Kabul. He also served as head master at the Estaqlal School. Prior to serving The Estaghlal High School Arghun served as the managing director of tourism department at of the ministry of culture and information. Helped re-opening of Kabul’s major hotels including intercontinental hotel. He founded a youth organization in 2002 and also helped establishment of victim groups in northern provinces of Afghanistan.
5- Abdul Salam Rahimi: Rahimi founded one of Afghanistan’s oldest non-profit organization Coordination of Humanitarian Assistanc in 1991. He served as the director of the organization for a decade. Under his leadership the organization became and since then remain Afghanistan’s largest NGO, working in provision of services in Health, Education and Agriculture/livelihood sector in ten provinces of Afghanistan. It also engaged in life saving and emergency assistance projects when needed by the partner communities. In 2002 Mr. Rahimi was appointed as a member of Commission for the Convening of Emergency Loya Jirga. The Commission was responsible for organizing elections for the grand assembly members. He was then appointed as a member of Human Rights Commission and served as the spokesperson of the Human Rights Commission. After serving eight months at the Human Rights Commission, he was appointed as the deputy minister of finance where he served for three years as both deputy minster of finance for policy and in times acting minister of finance.
Rahimi is the founder and general Saba Media Organization in 2005. SMO is Afghanistan’s first not for profit media organization with two TV networks and a Radio network with national overage SMO is dedicated to promotion of civil society and democracy in Afghanistan. He also pioneered and oversights two other major social advocacy networks (Education Watch and Social watch) both dedicated to promote social standards of Afghans and enhance accountability of government institutions responsible for these sectors.

Rahimi earned his BA in social sciences and has diplomas in organizational development and a diploma in Management.

6- Musa Mahmodi: Mohammad Musa Mahmodi is a established Human Rights Activist and lawyer with over 10 years of experience in the field of promotion and protection of human rights in Afghanistan. He served as Executive Director of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC). He has worked as Director of Bamyan Regional Office of the AIHRC and Deputy Country Director of National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) in Afghanistan. He holds a law degree from Kabul University and earned his MPA and MAIR from Maxwell School of Syracuse University, USA. Mahmoodi wrote extensively for national media on issues related to democracy, Human rights and political development in Afghanistan.

7- Sanjar Sohail: Sohail is one of the co-founders of Free & Fair Election Foundation of Afghanistan (FEFA). He is the publisher of Hasht e Subh Daily newspaper, the leading award wining and biggest daily newspaper in Afghanistan with significant outreach throughout country’s main provinces. Sanjar Sohail also has been leading the only liberal student’s movement in the country in early 2002 and also has been one of the members of the Young Leaders Forum in the country. Sanjar holds more than 10 years of experience in the media sector of Afghanistan. As Sanjar was intended to contribute towards regional democratization and promotion of the freedom of speech, he established the Kohandazh magazine in north-east region of the country. Sohail has produced and presented a number of radio and TV debates on human rights issues and current affairs. Sanjar has also built its carrier in visual media by working as the Senior Advisor and News and Current Affairs Manager of the National Radio and Television (RTA) of Afghanistan. He served as the Current Affairs and Broadcasting Manager of the Saba TV (a privet not for profit TV station in Afghanistan). He is leading the national election observation body of the country. Sanjar has written extensively on politics in Afghanistan and conducted number of widely read researches and assessment reports on democratization and human rights issues in Afghanistan.
