Abdulvahed Hamidi's wife, Zakiyeh Hakimi, said Afghanistan's National Directorate of Security (NDS) has said that the arrest of her husband was only a misunderstanding and he will be released soon. An Afghan official said Mr. Hakimi had been detained on suspicion of passing classified documents to Iran. However the NDS couldn't gather any evidence or document against Hakimi after searching his office since he is innocent. (20120521)

It is said that outside pressures was the reason for Abdulvahed Hakimi's detention. Hakimi is a person loyal to his country's (Afghanistan's) national interests and most part of the news he had sent for FNA were the remarks made by the Afghan officials on different issues.

After detention, Abdulvahed informed his family in a brief and controlled call that he had been arrested by the NDS, his wife said after his detention.· He had left home 20120505 morning for a report on the Kabul museum but didn't return.

The Karzai government also leveled allegations that the Iranian ambassador in Kabul, Abolfazi Zohrehvand, tried to influence Afghan parliamentarians to oppose the US-Afghan pact. Some analysts say Karzai wants to distract public attention, because he has signed the Strategic Agreement with USA.

Security sources privy to the case are playing down the Hakimi affair and said the detention of FNA's correspondent in Kabul might be the result of a misunderstanding among Afghan security bodies and their lack of knowledge about FNA's licensed operation in Afghanistan.

The FNA office is one of the most Iranian News Agencies in Afghanistan.
