Maryam Dorrani also won the American Time Magazine Award for as the 100 influential people of the world in 2012. Dorrani runs a local radio ‘Merman’ (Woman) in the southern volatile province and leads a non-government organization (Khadija-e-Kobra), which usually works on women’s rights. “As the founder and owner of a local radio in Kandahar which mainly focuses on women’s issues and as a member of Kandahar provincial council, she is working with extraordinary courage in the southern zone,” Time has said about Dorrani.
