Background:
With a population of nearly 60,000 people, Ajristan borders Gizab and Khas Uruzgan districts of Uruzgan, Sharistan and Nawar districts of Daikundi and Malistan district. The district contains an airport with two gravel surfaced runways. The airfield is located in a valley alongside the Ajristan stream on the southwest edge of the village of Ajristan. Prior to 2000, the district was known as Daya, and was part of Uruzgan Province. The District has 97% Pashtuns with a small number of Hazara.

Hundreds of Taliban fighters have stormed a strategic district in Ghazni province  and are on the verge of capturing it after killing dozens of people and beheading some in days of fighting.(20140926)
