Background:

Darqad district has 56 villages out of which 52 villages are under the Taliban control. (20171009) Darqad district fell to the rebels in November 2015. Shori Arab area in Darqad district was freed from Taliban as part of a fresh operation under the name Pamir 18, which was launched Feb 6, 2018. Insurgents had been seeking to build 1,000 shops in the area which they named it as Omari town. The security forces have bulldozed Omari Bazaar. The Taliban militants had illegally occupied the land and built a bazaar there to consolidate their grip on the area. General Noorullah Qaderi, the commander of Division 20 Pamir, said that the operation would continue in the border district until it is fully cleared of militants.(20180209)
