In clashes between commander Bashir Qanet of Hezb-e-Islami and Maulavi Mahfooz of Jamiat Islami party in Chah Ab District, Takhar Province, six people were killed, witnesses said. The Jamiat party confirmed the conflict, saying it was due to personal enmities.(20181231)
A clash between employees of a contracted company and local residents over the extraction of a gold mine in Chah Ab district of Takhar province has resulted in both human and financial losses,” said Humayoun Afghan, the spokesman for the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum. One resident reported of “harassment” by miners from other provinces, with violence breaking out in recent days after “the area that supplied the local people with drinking water was destroyed by the miners”. A number of local residents stormed the sites of contracted companies, setting their equipment and machinery on fire.the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, which has awarded the gold extraction contract in Takhar to a number of domestic and foreign companies, stated that the root cause of the clashes was conflict between the local population and the contracted company.
