Background:
Its population is almost entirely Pashtun. Ab Band is on the main road from Kabul to Kandahar. Much of Ab Band villages are now under Taliban control (20110910) only the district headquarter is under government control, ab band has no construction projects, its local people regularly go to Pakistan and Iran for work.

The Taliban have captured the Ab Band district of Ghazni province, but officials confirmed the fall of only two security check points. (20210608)
