3. Biodata: In 1980 he was a Mujahideen leader from Bamian, a prominent Shia leader in Afghanistann and the founder of Islamic National Unity Party of Afghanistan (Hezb-e-Wahdat Milli Islami).
Akbari was a member of the leadership of the Islamic jihad Council from 1981-1989. He became the First Deputy of Hezb-e Wahdat Islami in 1994, becoming the leader of the party in 2000. During the late 1990s, Akbari reconciled with the Taliban, and was the only Hazara leader to do so. He is a member of the High Peace Council, the Council of Shia Scholars (since 2002), and the Afghanistan Unity Council, which was established in 2005. Akbari has also been a member of the Afghanistan Islamic Brotherhood (Shura-e-Ukhowat Islami Afghanistan) since 2004.
Akbari was elected to parliament in 2005 with 24,475 votes – the highest vote-count in the province and one of the highest across the country – winning one of the four seats for Bamyan province.
Hazara Party leader Ustad Mohammad Akbari supported the Schia family law which in article 132 states "a wife is obliged to fulfill the sexual desires of her husband."
He is married and has nine children. Akbari speaks Dari and Arabic. |
