3. Biodata
Karokhel_DanishDanish Karokhel was born in Kabul in 1976 to a family widely known for its scholarship and contributions to Afghanistan in the social and political domains. Danish, who was initially schooled in Peshawar, went on to obtain a civil engineering degree from the Kabul University. While a university student, he evinced a keen interest in journalism - regularly reporting major events for Pakistan-based dailies and periodicals including Dawn, Herald, Jang and Wahdat. A resident of Khak-i-Jabbar district, he is presently settled in Kabul city, where he could be reached on 0093-70225375 or danish_karokhel@yahoo.com.
 

Danish is a member of several regional leadership conferences and a regular public speaker on behalf of the Afghan media, development of journalistic capacity, national recovery and he is a human right and peace activist as well. He is the winner of the 2008 International Press Freedom Award of the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) and he is the winner of the 2012 Press Freedom Whiting award from South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA). In May 3, 2014 Danish Karokhel, has been included in the first-ever list of 100 information heroes by Reporters without Borders known as RSF.

Background:
Established in April 2004 with headquarters in Kabul, Pajhwok is staffed entirely with Afghans in in Afghanistan. Pajhwok aims through its reporting to help citizens participate more broadly in public life, and to provide timely information that will help to ensure transparency and accountability in governance.Pajhwok, registered with the Ministry of Information and Culture, is Afghanistan's premier agency that releases photos and news in four languages, English, Pashto, Dari and Urdu. It has more than 500 subscribers.
