haq_abdul_maulawiMaulana Abdul Haq hails from Baghlan Province. In 2005 he ran as a candidate in the Wolesi Jirga elections and gained 9,011 votes, for 4.6% of the overall votes cast, giving him third place in the Province and winning him a seat as a Member of Parliament in the Wolesi Jirga. Abdul Haq also ran as a candidate in the 2010 Wolesi Jirga elections but was not re-elected for his seat.

Mawlawi Abdul Haq is affiliated with uzbek General Dostum's Hezb-e-Junbish Mili Islami-e-Afghanistan and is from from the Uzbek-dominated (and now 2010 Taliban-controlled) Burka district. Mawlawi Abdul Haq, one of the ulema in Baghlan Province, insisted that women should be denied education "because Allah says in the holy Quran that women should at stay home and not expose their beauty."

President Karzai appointed Mawlavi Abdul Haq as his advisor on religious affairs (20120515).
