The closure of the websites of Zawia Media is another sign of the Taliban's continued regulation of the media in Afghanistan.(20221004)
Following the continuous reports concerning ZAWIA News’ shutdown, ZAWIA will continue to carry out operations.
The Taliban network shut down a number of ZAWIA Media’s pages that operated under .af domain earlier today. Relevant websites, email addresses, and pages are currently not active. This occurrence takes place months after members of the Haqqani network stormed the headquarter of Zawia Media and took control of the office space and its web and social media pages upon the fall of Kabul. This network temporarily started using these pages to gain publicity and continue spreading propaganda. They lost access to the pages shortly after that.
ZAWIA will continue to carry out activities under .com domain. Zawia Media and Zawia News started to operate as independent media networks
