Haroon Asadullah Gul of Jalalabad (aka Haroon al Afghani by the Americans), who has never been charged with any crime by the US military, continues to be wrongfully detained in Guantanamo (ISN 3148) for over 13 years. He leaves behind a daughter, Maryam, who was an infant when he was arrested.(20201005)
Asadullah’s family lives in an old house in a refugees camp in south of Peshawar city. His only child, a girl, was 9-years-old when Asadullah was captured.
Nearly 220 Afghan nationals were sent to Guantanamo Bay prison after being detained in Afghanistan and Pakistan following the fall of Taliban regime in 2001.
Lal Gul Lal, head ofAfghanistanHuman Rights Organization, said that there are now two Afghan nationals in Guantanamo prison. He said that Asadullah Haroon is accused of being a member of Hizb-i-Islami, but he said that no evidence has been presented to prove he is guilty.(20200811)
