Erfani_KhudadadAlhaj Khuda Dad Urfani Alhaj Khuda Dad Orfani, son of Safdar Ali, was born in 1953 in the Sange-e-Masha area, Jaghori District, Ghazni Province. Orfani graduated from the Ayatullah Mohaqeq Seminary in 1974. He was also awarded a diploma – equivalent to a fourteenth class graduate certificate – from Istiqlal High School in Kabul in 2002. Orfani was a well-known jihadi commander with Hezb-e-Wahdat Islami Afghanistan. In 1979, he led the Ghazni fronts during the war against the Soviets in Afghanistan.

In 2001, he was selected as a member of the Emergency Loya Jirga Process Commission in the Ministry of Justice for four months and from 2002-2004, he was the Deputy Chair of the Advisory Council of Ghazni province.

Orfani was an unsuccessful candidate for the 2005 elections, gaining 4,443 votes. Orfani is affiliated with Hezb-e-Wahdat Islami Afghanistan, led by Karim Khalili. He joined the party in 1989 and is responsible for the party’s Jaghori district office as well as serving on its central council. In 2003, Orfani participated in the Constitutional Loya Jirga. In the 2010 parliament, he was briefly involved in the election of a speaker when he assumed the role of overseeing elections for the position from Osmani Farahi.
