Background:

Afghan Taliban officials were due in Islamabad, Pakistan on Wednesday Oct, 2, 2019 to Oct 6, 2019 , the 11 member delegation said, as the top U.S. diplomat Zalmay Khalilzad involved in talks with the Taliban, with a 5 member Delegation also met government officials there, although it was not yet known if the Taliban and U.S. official would meet. The Taliban delegation led by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, one of the group’s founders, was due to discuss “important issues” with Pakistani officials in the capital, Islamabad, Taliban spokesman Suhail Shaheen said. Special Representative for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad, met Pakistani counterparts in Islamabad this week, following discussions between U.S. President Donald Trump and Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan in the United States the previous week. Imran Khan asked Trump to restart peace talks with the Taliban during their meeting on the sideline of the UN General Assembly session in New York. Before coming to Pakistan, the Taliban delegation traveled to Russia, China and Iran.
