3. Biodata:
Dr. Mohammad Amin Ahmadi, son of Boostan, was born in 1965 in Baghchar Village, Orozgan Province (Orozgan e Khas). At a young age, he went to Iran to continue his studies and was involved in studying, research, and teaching for 25 years. He began religious studies including Islamic Jurisprudence, Islamic Jurisprudence Principles, Interpretation of Quran e Sharif, and Islamic Mysticism. Then, Dr. Ahmadi got his Ph.D. in Islamic Philosophy and Wisdom from Tehran University, Iran.
 

Now, Dr. Ahmadi is not only the lecturer, Chancellor and a member of Board of Founders, but also a member to Monitoring Board of Academic Affairs of the Ministry of Higher Education of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Director of scholarly journal of Anidish e Moaser.


Background:

Avicenna University in Kabul, Afghanistan, as the first internal non-organization private university, has started its activities in 2010 based on the Article 46 of the Constitutional Law of Afghanistan.  This University has basically begun its activities first as the “Institute of Higher Education” registered on 13 May 2010 in the Private Higher Education Directorate of the Ministry of Higher Education of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

 

Meeting the academic and administrative standards of getting promotion, the Ministry of Higher Education of Afghanistan promoted Avicenna Institute of Higher Education into “University of Avicenna” in 16 April 2014.

 

Avicenna University has started its activities first with four faculties of Political Science, Economics and Management, Law and Social Sciences. In these four faculties, following fields of studies have been taught in bachelor level including Business Economics, Banking and Financial Management, Political Thought, Sociology, Journalism and Philosophy.

After establishment of University, Engineering Faculty has started its activities with four departments of Civil Engineering, Geology and Mining, Architect and Environmental Engineering. Computer Science Faculty has been also added to academic units of University with two departments of Software Engineering and Information Technology.

 

The first provincial branch of University has started its activities in Mazar e Sharif Province in 1391. In this branch, different fields of studies including Political Sciences, Law, Economics, Social Sciences, and Computer Science are being taught. Mazar e Sharif is also equipped with library, computer lab and independent Faculty Members. With an exception to Engineering fields of studies, other fields which are being taught in Kabul branch are taught in Mazar e Sharif Branch faculties  as well with the same curriculum and quality.

 

Avicenna University provided Master Degree Program in the field of International Relationship in 1392 and MA in Law in 1393. Attempts have been taken to get license for MA programs in other field of studies which are at their final stages of implementation.

 

Rich library, modern laboratory, and equipped Computer Lab along with experienced faculty members and professional management, have changed Avicenna University to a credible, stable and flourishing academic center.

 

From its advent, Avicenna University, as a non-profit organization, has followed “cheap but qualified higher education” policy and now due to a positive financial balance, it applies “supporting students and reducing fees program”.

 

In 1394, Avicenna University dramatically reduced educational fees (13000 Afg in Social Sciences, 20000 Afg in Computer Science, and 23000 Afg in Engineering) and took another solid step in relation to development and generalization of qualified higher education in the country.

Board of Trustees has 15 members as follows:

  1. Six employed or retired lecturers from Institutes of Higher Education selected by Members of Academic Council for the period of four years.
  2. Two members from Board of Founders selected by the Board itself for the period of four years.
  3. Seven members from academic, political, and economic characters selected by Board of Founders for the period of four years. Paragraphs four to seven of this Article also stipulate that in the first session of the Board of Trustees, the Chief of this board for three years and Secretary of Board of Trustees for four years shall be appointed. It should be also decided that the Chancellor of University can take part in the meeting s of Board of Trustees as a supervising member represented from Academic Council. Avicenna University is pleased to announce that after years of successful academic activities, being one of the high ranking among other private universities, establishment of Master Degree Program, increasing the number of Faculties in different fields, establishment of Studies and Research Center as well a Publication Center, this University has been successful in implementing Article 13 of University Statute by establishing and introducing Board of Trustees.

According to Article 13 of Avicenna Statute, this Board shall be formed in three categories selected by two authorities (Board of Founders and Academic Council).

 

The academic, cultural and political characters that have been selected by Board of Founders are as follows:

  1. Sarvar Danish, the former Minister of Justice and Higher Education, the former Director of legal and Judicial Board of Presidency, The second Vice President of Afghanistan.
  2. Doctor Sima Samar, the Chairperson of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC), political activist and charity advocate.
  3. Nabi Khalili, the owner of Ghulghula Construction Company, an influential social person, businessman, economic entrepreneur.
  4. Naurooz Ali Hamza prominent social person, businessman, economic entrepreneur.
  5. Mohammad Nasir Ahmadi, influential social and economic person, Chief of Omran Holding Group Company.
  6. Shirbaz Hakimi, a prominat social person, President of Aga Khan Council in Kabul
     

The six working or retired lecturers from Institute of Higher Education selected by Academic Council are as follows:

  1. Malistani, prominent Academic person and a lecturer in Ta’lim va Tarbiyat University
  2. Ghafoori, major academic person and a lecturer in Kabul University
  3. Ahmad Salehi, prominent academic person and a member of Engineering Faculty of Avicenna University
  4. Alireza Rouhani, prominent academic person and member of Electoral Complaints Commission, a member of Law Faculty of Avicenna University
  5. Mohammad Amir Noori, an influential academic person and a member of Economics Faculty of Avicenna University
  6. Sayyed Masouda, a prominent academic person and a lecturer in Economics Faculty of Kabul University

 

The two members of Board of Founders who represent their board in the Board of Trustees are as follows:

  1. Ishagh Alavi, Monetary Policy Advisor of Central Bank of Afghanistan and a representative of Board of Founders of Avicenna University.
  2. Mozaffar Khavari : representative of Board of Founders of Avicenna University.
     

According to the first formal meeting of Board of Trustees on July 7th, 2013, Mr. Danish has been appointed as the Head of this Board for the period of three years and Mr. Khavari was assigned as the secretary of the Board for the period of four years by the Board.

According to Board of Founders and Board of Trustees’, Dr. Mohammad Amin Ahmadi has been unanimously selected and assigned as the Chancellor of Avicenna University for three years.
 

The Board of Trustees will hold a session whenever necessary and according to Article 14 of the Avicenna Statute, the members will fulfill their duties.

Based on the different paragraphs of this Article, ratification and confirmation of administrative and educational acts, assessment, confirmation and enactment of developmental plans, determination of the annual budget, organization of structuring and conforming a transparent and efficient financial mechanism, confirmation of changes in institutional structure, seeking fund and support are among the most important duties and competencies of the Board of Trustees.
