Their decision to break away from the alliance was because their party’s leader, Anwarul Haq Ahadi did not agree with certain requests by the coalition including the change in the political system and the establishment of a prime minister position, among others.(20181107

Background:

The Grand National Coalition of Afghanistan on Thursday July 26, 2018, formally announced its creation, stressing the need for transparent elections and pledging field a qualified individual for next year’s presidential election. Atta Noor said earlier in early July 2018 that there were plans to establish the party-based coalition in cooperation with prominent political figures in Afghanistan. At the time, Noor said if the coalition is not included in matters involving transparent elections, then the alliance will propose the establishment of a two-year interim government. In July 2017, Noor announced the formation of a coalition known as the Coalition to Rescue Afghanistan.  The alliance says it aims to work for improved governance, creating jobs, holding of transparent elections and ensuring improved security across the country. Noor said the growing ethnic division in the country was worrying and that different flags flew in some parts of the country – instead of Afghanistan’s official flag.  Noor also called for a transparent election that was free of fraud. However he claimed of the nine million people registered to vote, more than four million are ghost voters.

Mohaqiq said around 35 political parties have shared their proposal regarding the upcoming parliamentary and districts councils elections, emphasizing that the political parties want a transparent election.

Former president Hamid Karzai announced stout support for the nascent opposition alliance called the Grand National Coalition of Afghanistan.(20180727)
