Background:
Oranos is a new privately owned television channel and has started broadcasting in Kunduz province. The initiative is a joint venture between two journalists Hedayatullah Ziarmal and Zabihullah Majidi. The TV will air programs for eight hours a day on 487.25 MHz.  Ziarmal, the channel director, said that their channel was an independent and commercial media outlet. The channel is run with people’s support and money earned through advertisements. Currently the TV channel broadcasted its programs in Dari and Pashtu languages from 4pm to 12am (eight hours a day), because lack of technical materials limites the duration. The channel will air educational, cultural, scientific, entertainment, economic, politics, health and social programs. Zabihullah Majidi, head of Culture and Communication Foundation of Afghanistan Media, said that most of media outlets in Kunduz had been destroyed as a result of Taliban attacks on the provincial capital Kunduz City.

Currently three private and one government TV channels and nine private radio stations are operational in Kunduz province.(20171204)
