Yar Mohammad Dostum was born in Afghanistan. He lives in Shahr-E Sheberghan, Jowzjan. Yar has the rank of a Army Lieutenant after receiving training at Turkish Military Academy Erdeku, Balikesir, Turkey. (20140830) He now has a job with the Afghan National Army.

Two sons of Abdul Rashid Dostum, escaped unhurt in an attack on their convoy in northern Baghlan province, officials said on August 29, 2010. The convoy of supporters of the former Uzbek warlord came under attack on the Kabul-Mazar-i-Sharif highway in the Chishma Sher area, lying on the outskirts of Pul-i-Khumri, the capital of Baghlan province. The Junbish chief's son, Muhammad Batar Dostum, later told a press conference at his guesthouse in Mazar-i-Sharif that he and his brother Yar Muhammad were travelling in an eight-vehicle convoy when they were ambushed.Their two guards were wounded during a clash touched off by the ambush, while three attackers were killed and the others managed to flee, he added. "Right now I cannot say whether the attack was carried out by the Taliban or opponents of my father. Afghanistan is in a situation where anything is possible," he said, when asked who was behind the incident.Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed responsibility for the attack.(20100829)

The First Vice President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum was spotted in the frontline together with his two sons Yar Mohammad and Babur to fight the Taliban militants in northern Faryab province.(20150810)

Yar Mohammad Dostum son of Afghanistan's First Vice President Abdul Rashid Dostum has been appointed as the commander of garrison for northern Sheberghan city. The governor of Jowzjan province praised VP Dostum for being with “defenseless people” and sending “his son for defense and establishment of more order in Sheberghan city.” He said that Yar Mohammad had pursued education in military field and that he was acting as an active officer in the framework of Defense Ministry.
VP Dostum has been living in Turkey since May 2017 when he left the country amid allegations of ordering his men to beat and sexually assault his political rival last year.(20170813)
