Background:
Istiqlal is one of Kabul's larger public hospitals in the city and very well known. It has been a landmark of the Darlaman area and still bears the marks of decades of war. The only burn center in Kabul, it also boasts a major maternity ward and Neonatal critical care units.

Kabul City’s Isteqlal Hospital is the first hospital in Afghanistan to offer laparoscopic surgery after receiving its laparoscope.

Laparoscopic surgery, also called minimally invasive surgery (MIS), bandaid surgery, or keyhole surgery, is a modern surgical technique in which operations in the abdomen are performed through small incisions (usually 0.5–1.5 cm) as opposed to the larger incisions needed in laparotomy.(20131002)
The Bayat Foundation has reconstructed and opened the neonatal unit of Isteqlal Hospital of Kabul. (20141006)

The Ministry of Public Health said that Kabul's Isteqlal Hospital has started providing laser surgery to patients.

According to the hospital's administrators, this department has equipment worth $100,000, which was provided by the Ministry of Public Health.

Officials of the ministry added that efforts are ongoing to provide better treatment for patients in the country.(20221113)
