Ali Akbar Zhawandai, Zhwanday is co-founder, shareholder and ex-vice-chairman of Afghanistan’s Azizi Bank. He is a banker with roots in the hawala system. Bakhtar Bank is a wholly owned subsidiary of Azizi Bank, one of the largest bank in Afghanistan. Azizi Bank has been promoted by two leading businessmen - Mirwais Azizi (of the Azizi Hotak Group) and Haji Ali Akbar Zhawandai.
Zhwanday was part of the consortium, MTZ, that in February 2013 made the only remaining bid for the New Kabul Bank. The bid was rejected, according to a finance ministry official, because it was “not consistent with the current banking system.” When the New Kabul Bank was re-advertised in September 2013, two firms bid on the bank, but neither ended up buying. A new bidding process was announced on 28 October 2015.
Latif Khan Zwandi is the Son of Ali Akbar Zwandi. Latif Khan Zwandi was born in 1979 in the Hasanzaio village of Ismailkhel district, Khost Province. He completed his undergraduate studies in social sciences from Ukraine. He was provincial council member in the previous tenure. He has active presence in social and political activities.(2014)
