She is a independent Wolesi Jirga Member 2010. She was delisted from Wolesi Jirga Election 2010 after a Independent Election Commission Decision 20110821. However she will be replaced by Rahima Jami.

Samin Barakzai, one of the disqualified MPs, threw her black scarf at Maulvi Shahzada Shahid, a member of the reform group, when he announced support for the decision. She said: "Shame on you, you are a traitor." Soon after this incident, uproar and verbal clashes erupted. As the reformers left, their rivals stayed in Parliament for another 30 minutes. (20110827)
 
In August the Independent Election Commission (IEC) removed her and eight other members, saying other candidates had actually won.
 

Barekzai started her hunger strike unto death on Oct. 2 at a tent close to the parliament and her health is deteriorating (20111011). Police forced Semin Barakzai, a lady lawmaker who was on hunger strike against her disqualification, to call off strike late last night (20111014), doctors said. Semin Barakzai was brought to hospital last night and her condition is stable, a doctor of Sardar Muhamamd Daud Khan hospital in Kabul said.(20111015).
 

Semin Barekzai breaks a 18-day hunger strike in Kabul October 19, 2011. Barekzai ended the strike at the request of former Afghan president Sibghatullah Mujaddedi.
So far a MP replaced has been Shahnaz Hemati from Herat province, who died in a car accident. The next female runner up for Herat province, Semin Barakzai, took her seat.
 

Simin Barekzai announced her candidacy for the upcoming presidential election in 2014.(20120604)

Barakzai received 2,323 votes in Wolesi Jirga Election 2018 and got a seat in WJ 2018.
 

She is married to Mohammad Barakzai and a mother of three children.
