Ahmad Shah Waheed studied at Balkh University. Wahid, who is in his mid-50s, studied engineering and road construction in Italy and has been deputy minister for four years. Before that, he worked in the ministry overseeing road reconstruction.

Ahmad Shah Waheed, deputy minister for public works, was taken by gunmen at around 7:00 am (local time) from the Khairkhana neighbourhood of Kabul. At least five gunmen pulled Ahmad Shah Wahid from his car in northern Kabul as he was on his way to work on Tuesday morning. Public works ministry spokesman Soheil Kakar says Wahid's driver was shot and wounded when he tried to drive away to safety. (20140414)
