3. Biodata:
Azad_RaihanaMrs. Rahana Raihana Azad, daughter of Ishaq, was born in 1982 in Sharistan district, Daikundi province. Azad completed her secondary education at Alama Shaheed Balkhi High School in Sharistan district, Daikundi province in 2005. She is currently (2012) a student of Political Science and International Relations at Kateb University in Kabul. Rehana Azad is a Hazara Shia and also a member of Insijam-e Milli.

Azad has worked with non-governmental organizations and on cultural, political and social activities with a focus on women’s rights and the elimination of violence against women. She has also run projects for women’s capacity building and the defense of women’s rights. Azad was a member of the Women’s Peace Committee in Daikundi, and of the Afghan Women’s Network. She also representated Daikundi province in the 2010 Peace Jirga.

Rayhana Azad is from Shahristan district of Daikundi. In 2018 electionhe came in second with finally 12,689 votes. During the 2009 presidential election, she campaigned for President Karzai. In the 2010 parliamentary election, she was elected as the only female MP from Uruzgan for the Wolesi Jirga. Though she is not a member of any political party, she has strong links with many powerful politicians in Kabul. In public campaign speeches, Rayhana Azad reportedly said that her election bid was supported by the first lady, Rula Ghani.

Raihana Azad secured 12,680 votes in Wolesi Jirga Elections 2018 and grabbed a seat in WJ 2018. Azad had more educated and typically younger voters support as she stood for progressive values, such as human rights and the rule of law, locals said.(20181125)
