A dozen new police chiefs have been appointed in an attempt to improve security in the capital, Kabul, officials said on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011. The appointments were made on the basis of a recommendation from the 101st Asmayee Police Zone and approved by the Ministry of Interior. The newly-appointed officials will be posted to police stations in the first, second, fourth, sixth, seventh, eighth, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 15th and 16th (Deh Khodydad) police districts, said a statement from the Asmayee Police Zone.

Brig Gen Haqnawaz Haqyar was Kabul's Zone 1 commander. Haqnawaz Haqyar, formerly the chief of the Third District of the city of Kabul. Haqnawaz has begun well, instituting regular staff meetings and urging commanders to seek training opportunities for their charges. He made himself accessible to the district COPs within his zone and reaches out to local elders.(20071227)
