Fledgling domestic carrier East Horizon Airlines made its first flight between Kabul / Chaghcheran / Herat and vise versa on 20121126 and also to northern Faryab province 201211202., a move welcomed by Faryab officials and residents to improve their connections to other parts of the country. Plans are underway to introduce flights to Faizabad, Ghazni, Daikundi and Farah provinces, depending on security, the airline said. East Horizons (Ufuq Sharq) first flight was about one year ago. Its other scheduled flights connect the country's capital Kabul with Cheghcheran city in Ghor province, Bamiyan city in Bamiyan, Kunduz city in Kunduz and Tarin Kot in Uruzgan. (20121203)

Background:
East Horizon purchased four CASA 212-100 ramp-loading cargo planes from EADS CASA and will be operational in Afghanistan in May 2011.The airlines’s first operational routes will be domestic — moving cargo from Kabul to smaller Afghan cities. East Horizon Airlines CEO Peter Donlevy also anticipates modernizing the airfreight industry. “We can load and unload cargo without relying on the kind of expensive hydraulic loading equipment you only find in Afghanistan’s largest cities,” he explained in a statement. “We can drive equipment right onto the plane, and we can load non-motorized cargo using a donkey and a rope in those locations where more modern loading equipment is not available.” East Horizon Airlines Chairman Fawad Sultani remarked, “We are a 100-percent Afghan-owned cargo airline dedicated to supporting and accelerating the redevelopment of Afghanistan by moving reconstruction materials across the country more safely and quickly than is currently possible.”
