3. Biodata: Between 2001 and 2004, she worked as an assistant on immigrant rights at the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR). Following this she worked as a human, gender and political rights assistant at the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) in Bamyan Province for nine months before running for parliament. She has also worked for NDI in helping to build the women’s caucus in parliament. Her brother (Brig Gen Ghulam Ali Wahdat) was the Provincial Police Chief (Commander) of Bamyan. She is an independent MNA but close to Insijam-e Mili. Yalkhani won a seat for Bamyan province in 2005 with 2,864 votes. She was the highest scoring female candidate in the province. During this term, she was a member of the Oversight of the Implementation of the Law and Central Audit commission. Commission (2012): Disabled, Martyrs and Widows. Yalkhani participated in the Emergency Loya Jirga in 2002. She is married with two daughters. She speaks Dari and English. |
