tarin_ranaRana Tarin Ranna Rona Tareen, daughter of Haji Fida Mohammad, was born 1971 in Dand District, Kandahar Province. Tarin did her Baccalaureate in Kandahar. She was a well-known women’s rights activist and had decided to leave Kandahar in May 2010 and run for parliament in Kabul. (She said she quitted as she was frightened because Kandahar has lost a lot of its brave women over the past few years: Sitara Achakzai [provincial council member killed in April 2009], Malalai Kakar [top female police officer killed in September 2008] and Safia Amajan [head of women’s affairs department killed in September 2006.)  Member in Consultatory-Peace-Loya Jirga; member of the cultural Loya Jirga (Grand Assembly). 

Tareen is a member of the Religious Affairs, Higher Education, Education, Cultural and Scientific Researches Affairs Commission.
