Mohammad Omar was killed (20101008) in a bomb explosion during Friday prayers at the Spinzar (others say Shirkat) mosque in Taloqan, Takhar province. Omar was a resident of Takhar Province and has a house in Taloqan City.

Eng. Mohammad Omar was Governor of Baghlan, where many district commanders refused to follow his orders. In Kunduz, he is controlled by General Daoud. Mohammad Omar used to be a member of Abdul Rasul Sayyaf’s Ittehad-e-Islami Party, a deeply conservative follower of the Wahabi sect of Islam, receiving much of its funding from Saudi-Arabia. Reportedly, the Governor earlier kept a private prison in Baghlan. Mohammad Omar became one of Jamiat-e-Islami’s commanders in 1997. Kunduz governor Mohammad Omar was returning from neighbouring Takhar province when a remote-controlled bomb struck his vehicle, said local intelligence chief Abdul Majeed Azimi (20090530). Omar was slightly wounded. Noor Khan, police chief of Dasht Archi district in northern Kunduz province and brother of Mohammad Omar, the provincial governor, was killed along with his three bodyguards in a Taliban attack 20080902, Shaikh Sahdi, administrative chief of Dasht Archi, said. Omar: "The Germans are overly cautious, and they don't even get out of their vehicles. They should leave, and the Americans should replace them. The Americans would finally provide security."
