Nooristani_HawaHawa Alam Nooristani was born 1971 in Nuristan Province. She has a BA in journalism. She was a Pashto News Presenter in afghan state TV (RTA) and has 20 years experience in journalism. She was a clerk in the Ministry of Womens Affairs. Hawa Alam Nooristani, said to the media that the Ministry of Women's Affairs was incapable of representing and supporting the women of Afghanistan. The rights of the Afghan women have been continuously violated but the mentioned Ministry was not able to raise its voice in support of these women. During campaigning in 2005 Wolesi Jirga Election Nooristani, the then woman candidate, was attacked by gunmen and injured and the 3 other crew members traveling with her were kidnapped. She was hospitalized at US Base Bagram. Hawa Alam Nooristani as a member of an Afghan parliament was injured in a 20090814 suicide attack in Kabul, according to Roznama Aman-e-Milli an Afghan daily. Nooristani was active in the Afghan Women Netwok (AWN) in 2004 in Taimani, Kabul. She was a member of the committee on international affairs in Wolesi Jirga 2005. Mrs. Nooristani is married.

Rana Nuristani is a daughter of ex-MP Hawa Alam Nuristani was also nominated as candidate in Wolesi Jirga Election 2010 while her mother is also a candidate. Main reason of her candidature was to serve people especially youth, Rana Nuristanisaid, “Both of us act independently.” Rana Nuristani hails from Nuristan province but she has nominated herself from Kabul province. The only reason she had nominated from Kabul was, that she was born there, she explained.(20111129)
